Since the launch of her namesake label, Roksanda, at London fashion week in 2005, London based Serbian designer Roksanda Illincic has cemented her place as one of leading lights of the London fashion industry. Offering a totally fresh aesthetic, the label launched with a boutique collection of just eleven exquisitely feminine evening dresses. Her signature style is instantly recognisable and is distinguished by bold shapes, vivid colours and interesting textures.
Roksanda dresses have a highly structured shape, reflective of the designer’s keen interest in architecture, which she studied in her native Belgrave before moving to London to complete a Masters in fashion at Central St Martins. Collections abound with sculptural dresses and separates with bold proportions – artful ruching, flamboyant sleeves and draped silhouettes create a distinctive and strong, yet always feminine, look.
The couture-esque shaping of the dresses and separates, as well as the thoughtful and often boldly contrasting colour hues from which they are crafted, make every single garment unmistakably Roksanda. The label’s use of clean lines and luxurious fabrics offer a fluidity to their designs which render them timelessly feminine, unswervingly flattering and effortlessly elegant.
The ready-to-wear collection depicts a design aesthetic that pays homage to the female form whilst offering a cool, contemporary edge. Expect to see ultra-feminine 60s-esque shifts and stylish A-line midi dresses as well as classic pencil dresses designed with large bell sleeves and bold graphic prints or block colouring to add a delicious twist of contemporary drama. Unsurprisingly, Roksanda has a loyal following and is a firm favourite with a very distinguished clientele including the Duchess of Cambridge, Keira Knightley, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Gwyneth Paltrow and Emily Blunt to name but a few!
